Making a huge impression at White Hart Lane, Smith’s tally of 36 goals in the 1957-58 campaign made him the league’s top scorer.

In Bill Nicholson’s first match in charge of Spurs, against Everton in October 1958, the barnstorming forward scored four goals in a crazy 10-4 win.

During Tottenham Hotspur’s magical 1960-61 Double-winning season, Smith bagged himself 33 goals.

He scored one and made the other in the club’s 2-0 FA Cup Final success over Leicester City in 1961.

A year later, he scored in the FA Cup Final again, converting the second in a 3-1 win over Burnley. He was the first player to score in two successive FA Cup finals.

In total, the robust striker netted 208 goals in 317 appearances for Spurs. He also scored 13 times for England in 15 games.

He died on 18 September 2010 following a short illness.
