Robbie Fowler is a legend at Liverpool FC, one of Anfield's favourite sons. In two spells at the club he made 369 appearances, scoring 183 goals, and won several trophies. He is also the sixth highest goalscorer in Premiership history.

Robbie also played 26 times for England, scoring seven goals, and represented Leeds United, Manchester City, Cardiff City, Blackburn Rovers, North Queensland Fury, Perth Glory and Muangthong United.

Fowler's career at Anfield began in 1991 when he signed on as a youth team player, and a year later he signed professional forms. He went on to establish himself as a key player under first Graeme Souness and then Roy Evans, winning the League Cup in 1995, the PFA Young Player Of The Year award in both 1995 and 1996, and earning the nickname "God" from the LFC faithful.

2001 was Robbie's most successful year at the club, when under Gerard Houllier Liverpool picked up the UEFA Cup, the Worthington Cup and the FA Cup. Man of the match in the Worthington Cup final, and goalscorer in the UEFA Cup, he cemented his place in Liverpool FC folklore.

He is also fondly remembered for his three-minute hat-trick against Arsenal, and his sportsmanship. He famously once tried to stop the referee awarding him a penalty against the same side. David Seaman had been adjudged to have tripped him, and a penalty was awarded, but he turned to the ref and indicated he had merely tripped. His visible support for striking dockers, when he revealed a T-shirt highlighting their cause after scoring a goal, also gained him a lot of fans on Merseyside.

After falling out with Gerard Houllier, Robbie had spells first with Leeds United and then Manchester City. His support for the club never wavered, though, and he was in the crowd in Istanbul when Liverpool won the 2005 Champions League.

Rafa Benitez brought Fowler back for a fairytale return to Anfield in January 2006 on a free transfer. The fans were overjoyed to learn that Robbie had returned; banners in the game against Birmingham City read: "God – welcome back to heaven".

In what turned out to be his last appearance for the club, against Charlton Athletic on 13 May, Fowler was given the captain's armband one final time. He was substituted two minutes from the final whistle and given a standing ovation. He subsequently moved to Cardiff City.
