Born on March 23, 1973 in Rybnik Poland, Dudek is most famous for saving Andriy  Shevchenko's penalty in the 2005 Champions league final to win Liverpool the trophy in the shootout after Liverpool came back from 3-0 down.

He also won the League Cup in 2003 and the FA Cup in 2006 with Liverpool, playing 186 games for the Reds in total.

After the Champions League Final Jerzy had this to say about the final penalties - "When Vladi scored I didn't realise if Shevchenko didn't score we had won. I just had my focus and desire to try and stop every penalty. I saw him walking up and saw the fear in his eyes. I managed to save it and I then saw Jamie and the other players running towards me and I realised it was finished... it was a beautiful moment.

In a poll conducted by UEFA.com, Dudek's double save from Shevchenko was voted the greatest Champions League moment of all time, ahead of Zinedine Zidane's left-footed volley against Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the 2002 final and Ole Gunnar Solskjær's injury-time winner against FC Bayern Munich in 1999 for Manchester United.
