Luca Brecel was born on March 8th, 1995 in Dilsen-Stokkenm, Belgium.
In April 2009, Luca became the youngest European Under-19 champion at 14 years of age, in a 6–5 victory.
During his amateur career, Luca beat Jimmy White, Ken Doherty, Joe Perry, Stephen Hendry and Bjorn Haneveer.
In May 2011, Brecel received a wild card for the professional 2011–12 season tour. Luca turned professional in the following month, beating Anthony Hamilton in his first official professional match. Brecel became the youngest ever player to qualify for the World Snooker Championship at the 2012 event.
Brecel became the first player from mainland Europe to win a ranking event in 2017 when he won the China Championship.
In 2021 Brecel reached the final of the UK Championship, making him the first player from continental Europe to appear in the final of a Triple Crown event. Later that year, Brecel won his second ranking event at the Scottish Open. His thirs ranking title came at the 2022 Championship League.
Brecel was crowned World Snooker Champion in 2023 after beating four-time champion Mark Selby 18–15 in the final. In the semi-final Brecel trailed Si Jiahui 5–14, but came back to win 17–15. This comeback from 9 frames behind is the biggest deficit overturned in the history of the World Championship at the Crucible.
