Luis Alberto Suárez Díaz was born on January 24, 1987, in Salto Uruguay. His talent was spotted early and he made his debut for Nacional in 2005. He scored his first goal that September and helped Nacional win the Uruguayan league with 10 goals in 27 games.

He moved to Gronigen in Holland for €800,000 after the club's scouts had seen him play only one game, and made such an impact that in August 2007, after only 29 appearances for Gronigen, Ajax had a €7.5 million bid accepted for the starlet.

Despite some disciplinary problems, he thrived in Amsterdam, and in his four years there he was named Ajax Player of the Year on two occasions and Dutch Player of the Year once.

On 28 January 2011, Ajax accepted a £22.8 million bid from Liverpool. It was newly installed manager Kenny Dalglish's first signing for the club, and such was his faith in Suarez that he immediately gave him the number seven shirt that Dalglish had worn with such distinction himself. He became one of the most feared strikers in the Premiership, before earning his dream move to Barcelona.

Luis Suarez moved to Barcelona in the summer of 2014 for a fee reported to be between £65 million and £75 million, making him the world's third most expensive player of all time. He formed part of the deadliest front three in world football, alongside Leo Messi and Neymar Jr.

In 2014-15, he was a key part of the team that won a historic treble of Champions League, La Liga and the Copa del Rey.

Suarez has also enjoyed a successful career for Uruguay. At the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa, he played up front with Diego Forlan, forming possibly the most lethal strikeforce at the tournament. In a successful tournament for them, Uruguay made it as far as the semi-finals.

The following summer Suarez was part of Uruguay's winning team at the 2011 Copa America. He was named player of the tournament, and scored 4 goals, including two in Uruguay's semi-final match against Peru, and one in the final against Paraguay.
