On March 28, 1993, a 16-year-old striker that had been produced by the club’s youth ranks, made his debut away to Brescia. His name was Francesco Totti.

Quickly making an impact for the club he loved, ‘The Golden Boy’ grew in prominence, winning the 1998-99 Serie A Young Player of the Year.

Under Fabio Capello’s management Totti became the key player, and won the Serie A Footballer of the Year awards in both 2000 and 2001.

Scoring 13 league goals, Totti was the inspiration behind Roma’s never-to-be-forgotten Scudetto success in 2001 – and his status as a legendary figure for the club was assured.

Aside from winning the title, he has been runner-up six times in Serie A, as well as winning two Coppa Italia’s and two Supercoppa Italiana’s.

Now retired, the brilliant number 10 made 786 appearances for Roma, scoring 307 goals.
