The man they nickname ‘Money’ created revenue in excess of $1.3 billion from 15 televised pay-per-view bouts. His ‘Fight of the Century’ against Manny Pacquaio in May 2015 earned $400million alone, while his bout against Conor McGregor attracted nearly five million pay per views.
Mayweather is acknowledged as the best defensive boxer in the history of the sport. Laying a glove on the super-slick technician was near on impossible, and he was also an incredibly accurate puncher too.
Some of the fighters he beat during his illustrious career reads like a ‘who’s who’ of the sport. Hall of Fame stars Oscar de la Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto, Juan Manuel Marquez, Manny Pacquaio and Canelo Alvarez all came up short against Mayweather.
He wasn’t quite as successful on the dance floor though. In 2007 the boxer could only manage 9th place on hit US TV show ‘Dancing With The Stars’.
The Michigan-born boxer enjoyed a flawless career in the ring, rounding it off with 26 straight wins in world title fights. He is now a successful promoter.
