Andriy Mykolayovych Shevchenko was born on 9 September 1976 in Dvirkivshchyna, Ukrainian SSR.

Shevchenko started his professional career at FC Dynamo-2 Kyiv, (Dynamo Kviv's 2nd team) in 1993, making his debut at aged 16 and was quickly called up to the 1st team. Between his debut in 1993 and leaving the club in 1999, Shevchenko helped the club win 5 back-to back Vyshcha Liha titles and won the Ukrainian Cup in the 1995–96, 1997–98 and 1998–99 seasons.

Andriy joined AC Milan in 1999, winning the Serie A top goalscorer award in his debut season, with 24 goals in 32 games.

Shevchenko helped AC Milan to secure their sixth Champions League trophy in the 2002–03 season. Andriy scored the crucial away goal against Inter Milan in the semi-final and scored the winning penalty during the shoot-out against Juventus in the final. After an incredible season, Andriy was awarded the prestigious Ballon d'Or award in 2004.

Shevchenko ended his seven-years at AC Milan with 175 goals in 296 games and five major trophies.

After his 7 seasons with AC Milan, Andriy joined Chelsea in 2006. In his first season with the club, Shevchenko won the domestic double with FA Cup and League Cup final victories. The following season, Chelsea made it to the Champions League final, but lost out to Manchester United on penalties.

Shevchenko made 111 appearances and scored 48 goals for Ukraine between 1995-2012, making the nations top-goalscorer. He captained his country at the 2006 World Cup and Euro 2012. Considered by many as Ukraine's greatesr ever player, Andriy is now the President of the Ukrainian Football Association.
