Mata was born on April 28, 1988 Ocón de Villafranca, Burgos. A graduate of Real Madrid's youth academy, Mata played for Real Madrid Castilla in 2006-07, moving to Valencia in 2007-08.
In August 2011, Mata signed for Chelsea in a £23.5 million deal. He went on to win the Champions League and FA Cup while at Stamford Bridge.
When Juan Mata signed for Manchester United on January 25, 2014, for £37.1 million, he became United’s record signing.
Having been Chelsea’s player of the year for the previous two seasons, and been an integral part of their Champions League winning side, Mata’s arrival represented a real coup for the Red Devils.
With Spain he has won a World Cup winners medal in 2010, and a Euro 2012 winners medal, when he scored the fourth goal in the 4-0 rout of Italy.
