Nemanja Vidic was born on October 21, 1981, in Titovo Uzice, Yugoslavia. After experiencing years of civil war in his homeland, the teenager joined Red Star Belgrade, aged 15.
The centre-back made a big impression with Red Star who quickly handed him the captain’s armband despite his tender years. After winning the Serbia & Montenegro league and cup double in 2003/04, he was snapped up by Russian giants Spartak Moscow.
On October 12, 2002, Vidic made his full international debut against Italy. During qualification for the 2006 World Cup, he was part of his nation’s “Famous Four” defence which leaked just one goal in ten matches.Manchester United signed Vidic for £7million from Spartak Moscow on Christmas Day, 2005.
In 2008/09, Vidic helped United keep a record 14 consecutive clean sheets. At the end of the campaign he was named Premier League Player of the Season.
In the summer of 2010 Sir Alex Ferguson picked Vidic as the club’s new captain.Regarded as one of the greatest defenders of his generation, the Serbian has been selected for the Premier League Team of the Year four times. He also made the FIFA FifPro World XI in 2009 and 2011.
During his time at Manchester United, Vidic lifted five Premier League titles, three League Cups, a FIFA World Club Cup, and in 2008, the UEFA Champions League.
In the summer of 2014 he left Old Trafford for a new challenge at Inter Milan in Italy.
