Andrew Garfield was born on 20th August 1983 in Los Angeles, California. With a British mother and an American father, the family relocated to the UK when he was three and he has dual citizenship. He first became interested in acting after taking Theatre Studies at A-Level and went on to train at drama school.
In 2004 he began his acting career on stage where he gained critical acclaim, before appearing on a number of TV shows including "Sugar Rush", "Doctor Who" and "Boy A". He made his major movie debut in 2007 in "Lions for Lambs" alongside Tom Cruise, Meryl Streep and Robert Redford. Over the coming three years he appeared in a number of successful films such as "The Social Network".
In 2012 he was cast as Peter Parker in "The Amazing Spider-Man" franchise opposite Emma Stone. The film was well-received and made over $752m worldwide. He continued to play the role of Spider-Man in the sequel "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" before moving on to appear in a number of films and plays which garnered him wide critical praise including two Oscar nominations, a Golden Globe win, a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for his stage work and an Emmy nomination.
In 2021 Garfield reprised his role of Peter Parker in the film "Spider-Man: No Way Home" alongside his predecessor Tobey Maguire and his successor Tom Holland. It was the most successful film of the year grossing over $1.9b worldwide.
