Elijah Wood was born on 28th January 1981 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. At just seven years old, Wood started modelling and taking piano lessons before appearing in local theatre productions. In 1989 his family relocated to Los Angeles to allow him to pursue an acting career.
His early work during childhood included a steady stream of commercials, music video appearances and minor film roles. By 1993 he was landing lead roles for films such as "The Adventures of Huck Finn" and "Flipper". In 1993 he landed his defining role as Frodo Baggins in "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring".
The film was a huge commercial success, bringing in over $883.4m at the box office. Wood reprised his role for two further instalments in The Lord of the Rings saga, a trilogy which is now regarded one of the best of all time. The trilogy as a whole won 17 Academy Awards.
Since playing the iconic role of Frodo, Wood has gone onto have a long and successful film and TV career, starring in films such as "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and "Sin City".
