Holland’s finest ever darts star has won 68 tournaments during his illustrious career. His first was the Holland Masters back in 1991.
Barneveld lifted his debut world title in 1998 at the BDO event in Lakeside, narrowly beating Welshman Ritchie Burnett 6-5 in the final. In January 2007, Barney came back from three sets down to beat Phil Taylor 7-6 in a match that was described as the greatest World Championship final of all-time.
Between January and June 2008, Barneveld was officially ranked the number one player in the world. In January 2009, the popular Dutchman became the first player to hit a nine-darter at the PDC World Championships, in a quarter-final win over Jelle Klaasen.
He has five televised nine-dart finishes to his name. “Barney” is a five-time World Darts champion, winning the BDO title four times, as well as a PDC crown too. He’s one of only three players in history to reach this milestone, alongside Phil Taylor and Eric Bristow.
