Peter Phillip Bonetti was born on September 27, 1941, in Putney, London. He spent virtually his entire career at Chelsea, with brief spells at St Louis Stars, Dundee United and Woking.

Bonetti was known for his safe handling, lightning reflexes and his graceful style, for which he was given the nickname, "The Cat".

He made his first-team debut for Chelsea in 1960, and when he left Stamford Bridge 19 years later he had made 600 league appearances for Chelsea.

During this time he won the League Cup in 1965, the FA Cup in 1970 and the European Cup Winners Cup in 1971.

Bonetti also represented England, winning seven caps and being part of the 1966 World Cup Winning squad. He also played for England in the 1970 World Cup finals in the famous 3-2 defeat to West Germany.
